My name is Jacqueline B. Redeemer RN, MN, CNS, Nursing Research Fellow, and I am currently employed at Kaiser West Los Angeles Medical Center as a clinical nurse specialist in the area of medical surgical oncology. In 1995, I graduated with my Masters Degree of Nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1999, when I began my employment with Kaiser Permanente, I began participating as an active member of the SCAL Regional Nursing Research Committee. Other than being a co-investigator on one study with this committee, I have had minimal research experience in the clinical setting. This fellowship has afforded me the opportunity to advance my research competencies and skills. Overall, this nursing research fellowship program allowed the further development and mentoring needed as a clinical nurse specialist to progress along the continuum of research competence. This experience allowed focused time away from my direct clinical and medical center responsibilities to spend with a nursing research scientist mentor who guided me through the process of formulating a research question and developing a research proposal. The research fellowship program has also provided an opportunity to collaborate with the staff nurse in the residency program on activities that are directly related to my clinical area of specialty in Oncology.
